Marine Growth Preventer : Bio-fouling is a problem that is inevitable in environments where seawater is used to cool machinery and pipework on vessels, jetties and land-based industrial applications.
The larval forms of primary marine life such as barnacles and mussels enter seawater intakes and attach to internal surfaces, causing blockages, reduced flow rates and accelerated corrosion.
An electrolytic marine growth prevention system deters sea life from settling by creating a hostile environment which cannot sustain growth. A control panel operates an artificially triggered voltage difference between copper anodes and steel cathodes. A specified amount of copper ions dissolve into the seawater and carried throughout the equipment. Although the copper concentrations are low (less than two parts per billion), they are sufficient to prevent marine life from settling.
A system from Global Anodes designed to suit the application will keep cooling systems free of marine bio-fouling, extend the life expectancy of machinery, and offers a fully automatic system requiring minimal supervision by ships’ staff.
